Dr. Swanson is proud to announce the publication of his new book, “Evidence-Based Cosmetic Breast Surgery,” published by Springer and available at amazon.com or at springer.com. The book is due by mid April, 2017, in time for the meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Dr. Swanson will be giving a 2-hour instructional course titled “All Seasons Vertical Augmentation Mastopexy,” on May 1, 2017, at the meeting in San Diego. This course was sold out at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting in Los Angeles in 2016.

 

Although the book is written primarily for plastic surgeons, the writing style avoids jargon. It will be useful to the layperson with a keen interest in this topic.

He will be speaking on safety considerations in buttock fat transfer, the case against breast autoaugmentation, tips for improved surgical results, and reducing the risk of complications after abdominoplasty.

Dr. Swanson’s rebuttal of published guidelines for prevention of venous thromboembolism in plastic surgery patients was published online, July 8, 2016 in PRS. His concerns regarding the use of oral anticoagulants was published online July 20, 2016 in ASJ. A letter to the editor critical of the “ICE” Principle and 45:55 ratio was accepted for publication in PRS.

Dr. Swanson was an invited speaker at the meeting of the Canadian Society of Plastic Surgeons. He gave lectures on the “All Seasons” Vertical Augmentation/Mastopexy and on preventing deep venous thromboses without using anticoagulation.

 

An article discussing the problems with individual risk stratification and DVT chemoprophylaxis and safer alternatives was published in PRS Global Open on June 13, 2016.

Dr. Swanson was elected to the membership of the prestigious American Association of Plastic Surgeons.
