Liposuction - Abdominoplasty - Facelift
he Swanson Center is devoted to supplying our patients with the utmost care, comfort, and privacy while also maintaining a level of safety with the usage of advanced techniques and technology. Dr. Eric Swanson is a cosmetic surgeon in Kansas City who performs cosmetic plastic surgery to help women and men achieve the youthful looks, features, and figures they desire.
Here are just a few of the many surgeries offered by Dr. Swanson in his facility, to help patients acquire their aesthetic goal.
Liposuction
Also known as lipoplasty, is a surgical technique that improves the body's contour by removing excess fat from deposits located between the skin and muscle. Usually the best candidates for liposuction have bulging and flabby areas of the body, especially the abdomen, arms, thighs, and neck. The fat deposits can result from genetic factors, body chemistry, and other causes.
Liposuction involves the use of a small stainless steel tube called a cannula. This stainless steel tube is then connected to a powerful vaccuum which is inserted into the fat through small incisions in the skin. Fat removal is accomplished as the suction cannula creates tiny tunnels through the fatty layers. After surgery, these tiny tunnels collapse and thus result in an improved body contour.
Liposuction is the most popular surgical cosmetic procedure in the United States. Dr. Swanson has performed several liposuction operations and with his abilities he has been able to help candidates achieve their goals.

Abdominoplasty
Also know as Tummy tuck, removes excess fat and skin, and in most cases restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer. Since the excess sagging tissues can extend from the front, to the sides and to the back, Dr. Swanson provides you with pictures for each of his patients. Surgery can extend to treat these other areas or settle with a compromise transition zone from what was sculpted to what was left alone.
The ideal candidates for tummy tuck surgery are patients in relatively good physical shape, but have excess skin or fat in the abdominal area that is resistant to exercise. Abdominoplasty is also a fairly common method of restoring a woman’s figure after pregnancy. As with any plastic surgery procedure, results of tummy tuck surgery can vary, and candidates should discuss their goals with Dr. Swanson in order to establish reasonable expectations.
If your fat deposits are limited to the area below the navel, you may require a less complex procedure called a partial abdominoplasty, also know as a mini-tummy tuck, which can often be performed on an outpatient basis. You may, on the other hand, benefit more from partial or complete abdominoplasty done in conjunction with liposuction to remove fat deposits from the hips, for a better body contour. Liposuction alone may also create the best result.
You are at increased risk for complications if you have diabetes, poor circulation, heart, lung or liver disease, smoke, have a family history of blood clots, take certain medications, etc. Dr. Swanson will thoroughly discuss with you your medical history before you choose to undergo surgery.

Facelift
Also known as rhytidectomy, is not primarily a treatment for wrinkles, but may improve some of the damage from aging, such as loosening of the facial skin and creasing around the nose and mouth.
As with all facial plastic surgery, good health and realistic expectations are prerequisites. Understanding the limitations of rhytidectomy is crucial and psychological stability is vital. There is no ideal in a facelift. Rather, the goal is to improve the overall facial appearance. Skin type, ethnic background, degree of skin elasticity, individual healing, basic bone structure, as well as a realistic attitude are factors that will be discussed prior to surgery with Dr. Swanson. This procedure is sometimes performed on patients in their thirties, and successful surgery has been performed on patients in their eighties. A facelift cannot stop aging, nor can it turn back the clock. What it can do is help your face look its best and give you a look of health and a more youthful appearance. A side benefit is that many patients experience increased self-confidence.
In the procedure, incisions are made around the ears and within the hair on the scalp. Modern facelift techniques as done at Swanson Center provide excellent results by tightening both the skin and the deeper tissues of the face and neck. This approach allows flexibility so Dr. Swanson can tailor the procedure to each patient and avoid the “windswept” look that was common some years ago. The procedure is modified for each patient individually to provide the best results. It is often combined with other facial procedures such as browlift, blepharoplasty or neck liposuction depending on the needs of the patient. For some patients, the Rodeo Drive Chin Rejuvenation procedure can provide neck and chin improvement either with or without a facelift.
The most common complication can be bleeding which usually requires a return to the operating room. Less common, but potentially serious, complications may include damage to the facial nerve and necrosis of the skin flaps.
