Fillers: Restylane® and JuvédermTM - How It Is Done
When I inject Restylane® and Juvéderm (hyaluronic acid), I typically avoid using local anesthetic because it can obscure the existing skin wrinkles or lip contours. I use the smallest caliber needle that will allow me to inject the filler (usually a 27-gauge), and minimize needle-pricks by injecting as I withdraw the syringe. I prefer the longer needle because this avoids multiple needle pricks.
Are Restylane® and Juvéderm treatments painful?
It is somewhat painful, but takes only about five minutes to treat the lips and nasolabial creases. I use a smaller, 30-gauge needle to inject prominent vertical ("radial")
lip lines. Occasionally, a deep frown line between the
eyebrows ("glabellar”) or tear troughs are also treated.
