P.K. (Age 24) - Personal Trainer/Body Builder

Comments: Despite a 12% body fat percentage, this fitness director and personal trainer could not get the abdominal definition he desired. After liposuction, and additional training, he won his category in a body-building competition.

J.T. (Age 45) - Sales

Comments: This patient worked out regularly but could not seem to get rid of extra fat of the abdomen and flanks. He dropped from a 35 inch waist to a 33 inch waist after liposuction. He started walking on a treadmill one week after surgery.

Comments: This 39 year-old former Mr. Atlanta had continued to work out regularly. He kept lean, and had a low body fat of 8%. Many men would accept his before appearance, but he was a perfectionist. He wanted a ripped abdomen and no more love handles. The improved definition is visible six weeks after surgery. His incisions are still visible, but are starting to fade.

We were in Cancun about a year ago and,when I put on my swim suit, I felt like I was just draping out all over my suit. Now that has definitely changed! I am looking forward to going back again this fall. To anyone who is hearing or seeing me, I would say that if you have a problem like that (growing out of your wardrobe or just feeling miserable because cannot get rid of extra fat through dieting or exercise alone), I think liposuction is a viable solution. Diet and exercise need to accompany even liposuction after it is all done. I think a person needs to stay in shape, not allow the ravages of time to take effect and lose the benefit that you have achieved. I think it is a viable solution for anyone who has those things in mind. The first two days you feel like you have been beat up and run over by a truck, but it is definitely worth it. (I think, you know with the medications that you can take.)

I was really gratified when I first put on my trousers, and I pulled my belt up five notches beyond where I had worn it before. After measuring, I discovered that I had gone from about a 38 to about a 33 on the waist.”

Comments: This 45 year old male had lost weight recently. He demonstrated the expected loss of skin tone of his abdomen. In the past, I may have recommended an abdominoplasty. However, his abdominal skin has contracted nicely after liposuction. He said his result was “nothing short of miraculous.”

Comments: This patient also had a submental lipectomy and jowl implant. He drove himself to his appointment the day after surgery. He said that now that he was seeing some results, he was very motivated to stay in shape. The love handles have been eliminated along with the skin creases. It now looks like “he has a butt.” In both men and women, liposuction of the flanks reduces these bulges, giving the illusion of a fuller butt.

S.P. (Age 55) - Teacher/Farmer

Comments: This 55 year-old teacher and part-time farmer had recently lost his wife to cancer. He said he had been undergoing some lifestyle changes. He quit smoking, started watching his diet and exercising. He had liposuction before the spring break so he could take a week off. At his appointment four days after surgery he admitted he had been driving his tractor and doing some work around the farm. He wore snug-fitting “Under Armour®” garments. At his last follow-up appointment, he told me he was dating a much younger woman. No doubt that provided some extra motivation.

W.C. (Age 50) - Sales

Comments: This patient was aware that he was overweight. He said that even when he was lighter, he had these areas of excess fullness. He understood that a combination of weight loss and liposuction was needed. He returned to work five days after surgery.

Comments: This patient also had excess breast tissue, “gynecomastia”, which was treated simultaneously with an excisional procedure, “subcutaneous mastectomies”, in addition to ultrasonic liposuction. The two techniques are commonly used together to provide a smooth chest contour.
