he Swanson Center introduced ultrasonic liposuction to Kansas City in 1997. Over 3000 men and women have had ultrasonic liposuction at the Swanson Center, one of the largest patient volumes in the country. Over 1000 patients have taken part in clinical and outcome studies evaluating the safety and effectiveness of liposuction, cosmetic breast surgery, and abdominoplasties. Dr. Swanson is an advocate for evidence-based medicine, and has over 100 publications in the top plastic surgery peer-reviewed journals.
In 1998, Dr. Swanson built Kansas City’s first licensed, ambulatory surgery center specializing in cosmetic surgery— the Surgery Center of Leawood. Safety is the number one priority at the Swanson Center. Dr. Swanson has lectured frequently at national meetings on safety issues, including “SAFE” (Spontaneous breathing, Avoid gas, Face up, Extremities mobile) anesthesia. The anesthesia may be tailored to the needs of the cosmetic surgery patient, so that patients feel better after surgery and spend less time in the recovery room. As an extra safety measure, Dr. Swanson employs an ultrasound technologist to scan patients for deep venous thrombosis detection.
In 2009, Dr. Swanson published his four-volume Ideal Look® book series dedicated to providing patients with the information they need, without marketing hype. The hard-cover volumes include hundreds of full-color before and after photographs and actual patient testimonials. For the patient considering cosmetic surgery, there can be no better resource.
The Swanson Center has one of the country’s most comprehensive websites on cosmetic surgery. Actual patients who have graciously allowed their photographs to be featured tell their stories. The Swanson Center is dedicated to staying at the leading edge of technological progress, so that patients benefit from the most advanced treatments and techniques available. From the beginning, innovation, experience, dedication, and leadership have been hallmarks of our practice.
