Microdermabrasion is a technique that uses fine aluminum oxide crystals to buff the facial skin, removing dead skin cells on the surface, cleaning the skin of debris, and providing some collagen stimulation. Consider it a "high tech" facial.
Its advantage over laser skin resufacing is that it can be done over a lunch hour, the "lunchtime peel", with virtually no down time. Redness fades within a few hours. It is safe and all skin types may be treated. It is also relatively inexpensive - $70 per treatment. Usually patients schedule six treatments at weekly intervals. It is often combined with Oxy-Mist treatments ($25) to deliver oxygen and vitamins simultaneously. This is the state of the art in medical skin care.
