A thigh lift addresses sagging of the tissues of the thighs and buttocks.  Laxity of these tissues may be due to genetics, gravity, and aging, or significant weight loss.  Liposuction does not specifically treat skin looseness, so this procedure may be recommended if the problem is mainly loose skin.  For example, some patients will never wear shorts because they are too embarrassed by loose skin of the thighs.

There is a trade-off - a long scar that is placed at the level of the hips and goes almost all the way around the waistline.  Sometimes this scar is in continuity with an abdominoplasty scar.  For the medial thighs, the incisions are placed in the groin crease.  Liposuction may be performed simultaneously.  Often, liposuction is done first, and skin laxity is treated later, if necessary.

The recovery is similar to an abdominoplasty.
