An endoscopic forehead lift is a relatively new technique in performing forehead lifts. In the past, it was necessary to make a long incision either within the scalp or along the hairline. The surgery was lengthy and patients often were not happy about having a long scar. Now the procedure is done using small incisions which are usually placed just behind the hairline. An endoscope is introduced and used to lift up the tissues of the forehead and eyebrows, working below the skin and connective tissue of the forehead. The small muscles between the eyes are teased apart, weakening them to relieve frown lines. The deep forehead tissue is then pulled up, lifting the eyebrows into their proper position. The stitches are inconspicuous and are removed in 10-14 days. The hair is not shaved. Because the procedure is much faster than the older technique (typically less than one hour), it is now done very commonly, in about half of patients who have facelifts. This is because is adds very little to the recovery experience (patients don’t tend to notice it) and adds to the result by rejuvenating the forehead, which is not treated in a facelift. Patients worry that they might look “overly surprised” if the eyebrows are lifted too high, or they worry that their hairline might be lifted. Fortunately, the endoscopic lift avoids these problems. Patients enjoy the more open youthful appearance that facial rejuvenation provides. Contact us for more information on Forehead Lift
